Last weekend, the Catholic Church celebrated World Mission Sunday, the one Sunday each year when Catholics worldwide unite in prayer, reflection, and generous support for the missions. A second collection was taken at all Masses to aid the Church’s missionary work. At Holy Family Parish in American Canyon, Fr. Frederick led a joyful celebration of unity in diversity, reminding parishioners that we are all “pilgrims of hope,” journeying together in one Spirit in the Lord.

 

Parishioners wore traditional attire and celebrated after Mass with music, dancing, coffee, and cake, reflecting the parish’s beautiful diversity, from Ghana, Eritrea, Ethiopia, the Congo, Kenya, India, the Philippines, Mexico, Guatemala, and more.

 

Fr. Frederick’s message echoed throughout the day: though we come from many nations, we are one body in Christ, united in mission and love.
